While browsing the website Artsy, I was drawn to this print of an 1894 work by Edvard Munch titled ‘The Girl at the Window’. As it often happens with me while looking at Munch’s works, I instantly felt prompted to do a version which became the one below titled ‘Girl by the Door’ done in pastel on paper. When you see the two works you can tell why one is a master (Munch) and the other a hack (me).
I press on irrespective because for me doing art is restorative. It took me about five minutes to produce my work but those were joyous five minutes yesterday. As I have often said about painting or any creative pursuit—something that did not exist, now does. That’s good enough for me.
To prove that I am a hack, I quickly uploaded a file on my VIDA portfolio as an “essential top.” Check it out.
Speaking of selling stuff, Munch’s ‘The Girl at the Window’ is being auctioned two days. The estimated value is $15,000 and $25,000.
