Vidya Sinha (There is a link embedded in the photograph to the song.)
Not that I have ever been asked that but if I am ever asked how I would like to be looked at by a woman, I would unhesitatingly offer this look. If it were Vidya Sinha, it would be even better.
It is a frame from the 1976 movie ‘Chhoti se Baat’, in particular from the hit sing ‘Na jane kyun hota hain yunh zindgi ke saath’ (Why does it happen in life that…), The song was evocatively written by Yogesh, charmingly sung by Lata Mangeshkar and marvelously composed by Salil Chowdhury.
Vidya Sinha, the actress whose lovely visage this is, had that ability. I picked up the frame between the cues 2.14 and 2.16.
Watching this song early morning I came upon this shot and my instant reaction was “lovely and ruminative.” At the risk of overreading the expression, let me say that she wonderful captures the spirit of the song which is about remembering someone obviously dear.
The first antara has these wonderful lines by Yogesh.
वो अंजान पल ढल गये कल,
आज वो रंग बदल बदल
मन को मचल मचल
रहें हैं छल न जाने क्यूँ
वो अंजान पल
Their free translation would be:
Those strange moments, receded yesterday
But today they are here, changing their mood
Teasing my mind
And deceiving it
Those strange moments
I have generally not needed external stimuli to feel happy because I am internally happy which manifests externally. However, when I see a calming visual like the one the late Vidya Sinha presents and superb words by Yogesh that accompany it, I feel uplifted.
